Crowns are restorations that preserve your tooth’s shape, function, and appearance. Dr. C uses porcelain crowns that are made to resemble the enamel color of your other teeth.

Why Do I Need a Crown?

We typically recommend crowns on teeth that have been badly damaged by:

  • Fractures
  • Tooth decay
  • Large, worn-out fillings
  • Excessive wear
  • Abscesses (after a root canal)

What makes crowns unique compared to other types of restorations is that they cover your entire tooth above the gumline. This preserves the brittle, worn out tooth underneath without jeopardizing its long-term health.

Like bridges, your crown visit will take about two appointments to complete. First, the tooth is adjusted for support and all damaged areas are removed. Then an impression is taken, which we use to create your permanent crown. About two weeks later, your permanent porcelain crown is ready to be cemented in place.
